■ 저자소개

저자 : 장경미

동국대학교 영어통번역학과 졸업, Macquarie 대학교 통번역 석사 취득(Macquarie University Master of Translation and Interpreting Studies).
순수 국내파로 14살 남들처럼 중학교 때 알파벳부터 영어 공부를 시작하고 영어통번역학과까지 진학했다. 영어 못해서 수업 시간에 쫓겨나고 동기들을 받치는 만년 학사 경고에 꼴찌를 면치 못하는 열등생이었지만 ‘영어를 잘하고 싶다’는 소망 하나로 21살, 단돈 30만 원을 챙겨 들고 무작정 호주로 날아가서 식당에 취업했다. 식당 일과 영어 공부를 병행하면서 자연스럽게 영어의 뼈대를 잡게 되었고 ‘굳이 외국에서 공부할 필요는 없겠구나!’를 깨달아 5개월 만에 급히 귀국했다. 이태원에서 아르바이트하고, 무역회사에 취업해서 영어를 쓸 수밖에 없는 극한(?)의 환경에 자신을 내던지며 곰처럼 무식하게 영어를 공부했다.
‘오랫동안 꿈을 그리는 사람은 그 꿈을 닮아간다.’는 말처럼 통역사의 꿈을 현실로 바꾸기 위해 15년간 고군분투하던 영어 낙제생은 그렇게 서서히 통역사가 되었다. 삼성, 현대 등 인하우스 통번역사로 활동하다가 통번역업계의 가혹한 현실을 체험하고 ‘후배들이 더 나은 환경에서 안정적으로 일할 수 있는 환경을 만들고 싶다’는 목표를 가지고 통번역회사를 창업했다. 다년간의 영어 삽질 경험을 바탕으로, 과거 자신처럼 영어 때문에 고민하는 학습자들과 동시통역사 준비생들에게 도움을 주기 위해 강의를 하고 영상을 올리고 글을 끄적이다 보니 어느새 티칭 경력 16년차 영어 강사 겸 유튜버 겸 작가가 되어 있었다.
현재 영어 교육회사를 운영하고 유튜브 갱미몬 채널과 집필 등 다방면에서 활동하면서 ‘국내파도 영어를 잘할 수 있다’는 희망을 전파하며 열심히 살고 있다. 저서로 『팝스잉글리시 3』, 『나도 통역사가 될 수 있을까?』 등이 있다.
